This 2026 guide covers the six essential outdoor cycling adventures every UAE rider should tick off, with terrain notes, distance, difficulty and the ideal bike for each. Save it, share it, and let's ride.

1. Al Qudra Cycle Track β 86 km Desert Loop
Distance: 86 km full loop (18, 20, 30, 50, 64 km options) Β· Surface: Smooth tarmac with optional gravel detours Β· Difficulty: Easy to moderate.
The crown jewel of UAE cycling. Free parking at the Cycle Hub on Al Qudra Road, water stations every 10 km, washrooms, bike repair shops and even camel and oryx sightings as you ride deeper into the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. The main loop is paved and beginner-friendly, but several gravel detours toward Bab Al Shams reward riders who want a true off-road experience. Best ridden between October and April, ideally before sunrise to avoid heat.
Best bike: a versatile gravel rig like the 3T Exploro Ultra Rival, or any endurance road bike from our road bike collection.
2. Hatta Mountain Biking Trails β Rocky Adventure
Distance: 20β60 km loops Β· Surface: Hardpack gravel, rocky doubletrack, technical singletrack Β· Difficulty: Moderate to hard.
Hatta is the UAE most cyclists never see β green mountains, dam reservoirs, dramatic rocky descents and over 80 km of marked MTB trails maintained by the Hatta Wadi Hub. Trails range from beginner blue loops through Hatta Dam to expert black-graded technical descents. Cooler than Dubai by 5β8Β°C and rideable almost year-round.
Best bike: a capable trail bike from our mountain bike range, such as the Pivot Trail 429 V2.
3. Jebel Jais β The Highest Road Climb in the UAE
Distance: 36 km climb Β· Elevation gain: 1,650 m Β· Surface: Pristine tarmac Β· Difficulty: Hard.
The crown jewel of UAE road cycling. Located in Ras Al Khaimah, Jebel Jais peaks at 1,934 m and offers consistent 5β7% gradients on perfect tarmac. Temperatures at the top can be 10Β°C cooler than at sea level, making it rideable even in the warmer months (early start required). Aid stations near the base in winter, but bring at least 2 L of water β there is nothing on the climb itself.
Best bike: a lightweight climber's road bike like the ENVE Melee or anything carbon from our road bike category.
4. Nad Al Sheba Cycle Park β Urban Training Loop
Distance: 4, 6 or 8 km loops Β· Surface: Tarmac Β· Difficulty: Easy.
Open 24/7 and floodlit at night β perfect for summer training when daytime temperatures peak above 40Β°C. Closed to traffic, with three concentric loops and a dedicated kids' track. Free parking, washrooms, water and a small cafΓ©. The go-to spot for Dubai cyclists doing structured intervals.
Best bike: any road bike or fast gravel like the 3T Exploro RaceMax.
5. Al Ain to Hatta Gravel Adventure β Desert Crossing
Distance: 90β140 km point-to-point Β· Surface: Mixed gravel, hardpack, short tarmac sections Β· Difficulty: Hard / Expedition.
For experienced gravel riders only. This crossing of the Hajar Mountains foothills mixes oasis villages, wadis and remote desert tracks. Self-supported β carry minimum 4 L of water and a comprehensive repair kit. Best done between November and March in a small group.
Best bike: a true adventure gravel rig like the SUNN Venture S2 with 45c+ tyres, or browse our full gravel bikes selection.
6. Yas Island Cycle Track β Coastal Easy Loop
Distance: 30 km loop Β· Surface: Tarmac Β· Difficulty: Easy.
The smoothest tarmac in the UAE wraps around Yas Marina Circuit, Ferrari World and Yas Beach. Closed to traffic on weekend mornings (TrainYAS), this is the perfect family-friendly outdoor cycling adventure with sea views. Bike rentals on-site if you don't want to drive yours over.
Desert Cycling Safety Tips
- Hydration first. Minimum 750 ml per hour, more in summer. Use electrolyte tabs, not just water.
- Ride before sunrise. From May to September, start by 5:00 AM and be off the bike by 8:30 AM.
- Sun protection. SPF 50, UV-protective jersey, polarised cycling glasses.
- Tell someone. Phone signal disappears in remote desert and mountain areas β share your live location.
- Tools and tubes. Always carry two tubes, a multi-tool and a mini-pump or COβ. Sharp gravel shreds tyres.
Best Time of Year for Each Route
- Al Qudra: October to April, sunrise rides.
- Hatta MTB: October to May (cooler microclimate).
- Jebel Jais: Year-round, early starts in summer.
- Nad Al Sheba: Year-round, evenings in summer.
- Al Ain to Hatta: November to March only.
- Yas Island: November to April, weekend mornings.
