My Exploro Experience Changed the Way I Ride — A detailed rider review of the 3T Exploro Primo Rival 1×11 ‘Grape’ with real-world performance, technical specs, pros, cons, and customization tips

In March, I tested the Exploro on a 200km bikepacking weekend from Dubai to Jebel Jais. I mounted a frame bag, top tube bag, and a saddle roll — all fit perfectly. The carbon frame handled the load without flexing, and the geometry remained responsive even with 6kg of gear.
The Rival 1×11 handled steep gradients well with the 42T rear cog, and I never felt undergeared. I did add a suspension seatpost (Redshift ShockStop) which significantly improved comfort during rough segments.
With summer temperatures hitting 43°C, I was worried about the bike’s behavior in extreme heat. The good news? No fading from the brakes, and the carbon frame didn’t creak or expand. I stored the bike in my car trunk several times — not a single issue.
Also: the disc rotors stay surprisingly cool, and the hydraulic SRAM system didn’t boil, even on long descents in Hatta.
After 6 months of rides, the drivetrain is still crisp. I recommend ceramic wet lube for dusty areas, and a quick rinse with a soft sponge after each ride. I’ve only had to adjust the derailleur once. The Rival system is impressively stable even after transport and car travel.
The headset and BB are still silent. No signs of carbon stress or wear. I check tire pressure before each ride and use Orange Seal tubeless — zero punctures so far.
I sold my road bike after 3 months with the Exploro. I just didn’t need it anymore. The Exploro is 90% as fast on tarmac and much more comfortable when the asphalt ends. It’s not a mountain bike — but for most real-world riders, this is the perfect quiver-killer.
