Over the last few weeks, we took the 2025 Pivot Firebird YOLO on every type of terrain imaginable – from loose desert trails to steep alpine rock gardens. This premium enduro machine, designed by Pivot Cycles and available in its stunning “YOLO” finish, promised a blend of speed, adjustability, and aggressive downhill performance. The result? It didn’t just deliver – it surprised us in every way.
🔥 First Impressions: Bold, Sleek, and Purpose-Built
The first thing that strikes you about the Firebird YOLO is the vibrant paint job. The YOLO finish screams style without compromising the serious enduro attitude this bike brings. The carbon frame is exceptionally clean with internally routed cables, a Tool Dock integration under the downtube, and a design that feels built for precision engineering.
The overall weight (around 15.9 kg) felt surprisingly light for such a capable rig. Set up with a Fox 38 Factory fork and Float X2 rear shock, it was clear this bike wasn’t just meant for weekend trail cruising — it was born to race and conquer gnarly descents.
⚙️ On the Trails: Speed and Stability Redefined
The Firebird features 170 mm of front travel and 165 mm at the rear, paired with a DW-Link suspension platform. On steep descents and technical rock lines, the suspension was plush yet supportive. It never once bottomed out harshly and always provided a consistent feeling of control and feedback.
We took it through everything – berms, switchbacks, jumps, roots, high-speed flats – and the Firebird YOLO handled each with impeccable balance. The long wheelbase and slacker head angle (adjustable via flip chip) made the bike confidence-inspiring at high speed while remaining agile in tighter corners thanks to the size-specific chainstay lengths.
⬆️ Climbing Efficiency: Surprisingly Nimble for a Beast
Most long-travel bikes tend to suffer uphill. The Firebird defies expectations. Thanks to its steep seat tube angle and DW-Link suspension efficiency, it climbs far better than it should. The rear wheel stays planted even on loose, technical climbs, and the weight distribution feels centered and compact.
The Shimano XTR drivetrain on our build offered crisp, responsive shifting under load, and the traction on rocky ascents was remarkable. The only limitation was the Firebird’s burly tires – great for descending, slightly sluggish for long uphills. A minor tradeoff for its descending prowess.
🔧 Component Highlights
- Fork: Fox 38 Factory, 170 mm travel
- Shock: Fox Float X2 Factory
- Drivetrain: Shimano XT/XTR or SRAM X0 Transmission AXS (depending on configuration)
- Brakes: SRAM Maven or Shimano XT 4-piston
- Wheels: DT Swiss XM1700 or optional Reynolds carbon
Everything feels overbuilt yet refined. Even on punishing descents and flat-out bike park laps, we never had to stop to adjust or troubleshoot. This bike is designed to be pushed hard, day after day.
🧠 Smart Adjustments and Versatility
One of the Firebird’s biggest strengths is adjustability. The flip chip lets you fine-tune geometry (high/low BB, slacker head angle), and the compatibility with mixed wheel sizes (29 front, 27.5 rear) allows you to customize the ride feel to your terrain and riding style. Add in the reach-adjustable headset (sold separately) and this becomes a highly customizable race machine.
✅ Verdict: Who Is It For?
If you’re an aggressive enduro or park rider who wants a bike that can climb with the crew and destroy every descent with race-ready confidence, the Pivot Firebird YOLO is a serious contender. It’s not cheap, but every component, feature, and finish screams value for money if you ride hard and fast.
Pros
- Superb suspension kinematics for both climbing and descending
- Flip chip + size-specific tuning + optional mixed wheel = ultra versatility
- High-end spec with zero compromises
- Tool integration and internal cable routing done right
- Showstopper aesthetics in YOLO colorway
Cons
- Pricey – this is a top-tier build for experienced riders
- Overkill for casual trail riders or mellow terrain
We’ve tested dozens of enduro bikes, but few offer the all-around brilliance of the Firebird. When every second, every turn, and every landing matters – this bird doesn’t just fly. It dominates.
